Please refer to the following sample language as you and your legal counsel craft an estate gift that achieves your philanthropic goals for Virginia Wesleyan College:
Unrestricted Bequest
“I give, devise and bequeath, to Virginia Wesleyan College, a non-profit located in Norfolk, Virginia, (insert dollar amount, percentage (%) of estate or exact description of property to be devised) to be used for the greatest need of the College.”
Restricted Bequest
“I give, devise and bequeath, to Virginia Wesleyan College, a non-profit located in Norfolk, Virginia, (insert dollar amount, percentage (%) of estate or exact description of property to be devised) to establish the (name) Fund to be held in perpetuity as an endowment for the benefit of the (specific purpose or program) at Virginia Wesleyan College.
The distribution of my bequest shall be received and administered as a pure endowment by Virginia Wesleyan College in accordance with investment policies of the institution, whereby only the income shall be used to provide ongoing support to the (specific purpose or program).”
Residue/Remainder of Estate
"I give, devise and bequeath, to Virginia Wesleyan College, a non-profit located in Norfolk, Virginia, all of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate, of whatsoever kind and character and wherever situated, for the (greatest need or specific program or purpose) of the College.
