United Methodist Programs

General Board of Higher Education and Ministry

Following are a few of the scholarships offered:

  • Gift of Hope: 21st Century Scholars Program ($1,000) for United Methodist undergraduate students already in leadership in the church and who will continue to lead once they graduate. GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • HANA Scholars Program for outstanding United Methodist Hispanic, Asian, Native American and Pacific Island undergraduates (junior and senior only).
  • United Methodist Ethnic Scholarship Program assists African American, Asian, Hispanic, Native American or Pacific Islanders.
  • Scholarship Application (General) General Board of Higher Education and Ministry. Undergraduates may apply for the BASS (first preference to those who are preparing for the ministry or other full-time religious vocations) or a few other small scholarships.
  • The Miriam Hoffman Scholarship Program for students who are pursuing a vocational career in music with preference to students interested in careers in music education and/or music ministry.

Applicants must be attending school on a full-time basis and must be a full and active member of the United Methodist Church for at least one year prior to applying. Students are eligible for only ONE AWARD from the funds of the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry per academic year.

United Methodist Foundation Scholars Program

Scholarship awards of $1,000. The purpose of this program is to foster value-centered education in a Christian context in United Methodist-related educational institutions through scholarship assistance to United Methodist students.

Applications will be accepted from candidates who have been active members of The United Methodist Church for at least one year. Students must also be in a full-time degree program and be a U. S. citizen or permanent resident. Application and Certification of Church Membership must be received by March 1 in the Financial Aid Office in Godwin Hall. Students may receive only ONE SCHOLARSHIP from the Foundation per year.

United Methodist Student Loan Program

The applicant must be an active, full member of a United Methodist Church for at least one year prior to applying. They must be a citizen or permanent resident of the U.S., admitted to a degree program in an accredited college or university and maintaining at least a "C" average. Students can borrow up to $2,500 per calendar year at an interest rate of 6%. There is no origination fee, and loan repayment is deferred while in school. The student is given a six month grace period after completion of school before repayment starts and has up to 10 years to repay. Applications are available online.
