Inquire about financial aid programs sponsored by your or your parents’ employers. Also pursue financial aid scholarships on the web and through your church, public school system, local businesses, grocery stores, department stores, banks, credit unions, pharmaceutical companies, national brands and companies such as Tylenol, Pepsi-Cola, Kellogg’s, Wal-Marts, K-Marts, etc. Check also with local civic groups and professional organizations. Scholarships are out there, you just have to take the time to look for them and then apply!

2008 Agnes Cooke Scholarship Award Application
- Deadline: July 16, 2008
- Award: $550
This scholarship competition is open to any Virginia college student or Virginia resident attending an out of state college. Applicants must be planning a career in journalism, photo journalism, public relations or another related communications field. To apply one must fill out a scholarship application, three work samples, a resume and a letter of recommendation.

2008 Tylenol Scholarship
- Deadline: May 15, 2008
- Award: $1,000 to $5,000
Scholarships will be awarded to future doctors, nurses and other health care professionals. Applicants will be judged on leadership qualities and academic performance.
Winners will be selected by the end of July 2008.

Army ROTC Scholarships

Bright Futures Scholarship
- Deadline: MAY 16, 2008
- Award: $1500 - $2500
Three scholarships available for students pursuing degrees in early childhood education or related field.
•$1500 scholarship for those entering second year of associate’s degree program •$2500 scholarship for those entering junior year in bachelor’s degree program •$2500 scholarship for those enrolled in master’s program interested in teaching career or those in master’s program in Education, Educational Leadership/Administration or related degree pursuing a career as a director of a child care program
Application requirements:
A typed personal essay of at least 500 words but not to exceed 800 words on why individual is passionate and committed to their education, including any obstacles they may have overcome
Three recommendations, two from college faculty specific to an area of study in child development and one from professional in field who has observed candidate working with children Resume documenting work history
Official transcript and GPA of at least 3.0
Name of mentor/teacher who inspired the applicant to pursue a career with young children
Winners will be notified by July 31, 2008.

FRANK G. STEGALL QUALITY SCHOLARSHIP
- Deadline: May 15, 2008
- Award: Two $750 scholarships
Available in memory of Frank Stegall, a charter member of the Tidewater Section of the American Society for Quality, to college students and/or high school students entering college from the Tidewater/Hampton Roads areas. The scholarship also includes a free one-year membership in the ASQ Tidewater section.
Eligibility requirements: Proof of enrollment (an official transcript or an unofficial transcript with a copy of one of following: student ID, receipt for tuition deposition, or confirmation of enrollment letter from institution.
Quality essay. In 1000 to 1500 words discuss the following: In your own words describe how the “Lean Six Sigma” method for improving other quality initiatives (ie Zero-Defects, ISO 9000, etc).
Mail completed application with attachments to: Rathmond Collins, ASQ Scholarship Chairman, 1026 Cathedral Drive, Suffolk, VA 23434. Incomplete applications cannot be considered.

Journyx Scholarship Program
- Deadline: June 1, 2008
- Award: $500
Journyx will award one graduate/undergraduate student in recognition of his/her passion for improving the lives of knowledge workers through technology, academic excellence and the ability to make a difference in the project accounting technology industry.
To qualify for the scholarship one must write an essay 1,000 words or less on one of two topics:
1. Persuade someone who doesn't want to track his time as a per-product per-activity basis why it is in his best interest to do so.
2. Describe a real situation you've encountered where project oriented time tracking has made a positive difference in the world.
Submit the essay and the following materials:
Official academic transcript containing entrant's spring semester grades for academic year in progress and a copy of entrant's resume that includes email address, campus address and phone number, student ID number, permanent address and phone number and expected graduation date.

KeyBank Scholarship
- Award: $2,500
KeyBank is giving away a $2,500 scholarship every month from September 1, 2007, through August 31, 2008. High school juniors, seniors and their parents, and undergraduate students and their parents are eligible. There are no GPA or essay requirements.

Patrick Kerr Skateboard Scholarship
- Award: One for $5,000/three for $1000
Eligibility Requirements:
To be eligible for the Patrick Kerr Skateboard Scholarship, a student must meet the following requirements:
•Be a skateboarder •Currently a high school senior graduating by June 2008 Possess a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale •Enroll in a full time undergraduate course of student at an accredited two or four year college/ university no later than fall term of 2008 •Be a United States citizen
The fund provides four scholarships, one for $5000 and three for $1000. Applications will be reviewed by the scholarship selection committee. The top ten candidates will have their essays sent to each member of the Board of Trustees for final ranking.
Award recipients will be notified by July 15, 2008. Recipients will be listed on the Patrick Kerr Skateboard Scholarship website. Decisions are final.

- Up to $42,000 of taxable income for tuition, books, and other living expenses
