Award Letter Instructions

Freshmen / First-time Borrowers / Transfer Students

  1. Review your Financial Aid Award Letter.
  2. Write “decline” next to any award you are declining.
  3. If you are accepting your Federal Stafford Loan(s), select your lender from the List of Preferred Lenders on page 5 of your award guide (or a lender of your choice) and write that lender’s name on the Award Letter in the space provided. Note: If you choose a external lender please complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN) with that lender. You MUST complete the Entrance counseling for your Stafford Student Loan in step 5.
  4. Sign and return one copy of your Financial Aid Award Letter to the Virginia Wesleyan College Financial Aid office in the return envelope enclosed in your Financial Aid package. (Returning students who have previously borrowed a Stafford Loan and completed a MPN while at VWC are not required to complete Step 5.)
  5. All First Time-Borrowers/Transfer Students/Readmit Students- You must complete the Entrance Counseling for your Stafford Student Loan and a MPN online. Note: If you choose a external lender please complete a MPN with that lender. You MUST complete the Entrance counseling for your Stafford Student Loan.
  6. Use the Calculation Worksheet to determine if additional financing is needed.

Returning Students Who Have Already Completed A Federal Stafford Master Promissory Note

  1. Review your Financial Aid Award Letter
  2. Calculate your Net Cost by completing the Calculation Worksheet. (For your records only.)
  3. Write “decline” next to any award you are declining.
  4. Sign and return one copy of the Financial Aid Award Letter to the Virginia Wesleyan College Financial Aid office in the enclosed return envelope. Your signed award letter will be your acceptance for a new loan. A disclosure notice will be sent to you indicating the loan amount approved.

Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS)

  1. Calculate your Net Cost by completing the Calculation Worksheet. (For your records only.)
  2. If the PLUS loan is to be used to cover payment of the Net Cost please click here for instructions.
