How and when do I apply for financial aid?
To be considered for financial aid, all students must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid(FAFSA). Financial aid is granted on an annual basis and your need is evaluated each year. You must complete a FAFSA for financial aid each academic year you plan to attend college. The FAFSA can be completed anytime after January 1. VWC gives first preference to applicants who meet our March 1 priority deadline.
How and when are students informed of their financial aid award?
If you are an admitted student who has filed your FAFSA by the recommended deadline of March 1, you should receive your award offer via mail by April 1. You have until May 1 to confirm your acceptance of the award package and our enrollment offer by signing and returning one copy of your award letter with your initial deposit. Students notified after April 15 have two weeks from the time they receive their award package to accept their offer. All financial aid award packages are subject to change based on FAFSA changes, enrollment status, eligibility for aid programs, deadlines, etc.
How do I start the FAFSA?
You may start the FAFSA process by requesting a PIN (Personal Identification Number) which serves as an electronic signature on the FAFSA. Access the PIN web site at www.pin.ed.gov and request a PIN for yourself and request a PIN for a parent, if you are a dependent student. A dependent student is under age 24, not married and does not have a dependent of their own. Dependent students AND a parent must sign the initial FAFSA and future FAFSAs for all updates, corrections or changes. Access the web site at www.fafsa.ed.gov after January 1 and complete the FAFSA using your PIN and the PIN of your parent.
The priority deadline for all FAFSA information is March 1.
