Resources and Services

As an Adult Studies student you will be part of the Virginia Wesleyan Community with many important services of the College available to you. We want your time with us to be as productive and enjoyable as possible!

Learning & Writing Centers

The Learning & Writing Centers are conveniently located on the floor above the Adult Studies Program Office. As a Virginia Wesleyan student, you have access free of charge to several types of academic support that the Learning Center offers, including writing assistance and peer and professional tutoring in many course areas. Evening hours are available.

Career Services

At the College's Career Services Center you can get help with career counseling or with a job search. You are welcome to use their library of resources, which includes self-assessment tools and information about occupations, graduate schools and job openings. Many ASP students use their services each semester and evening hours are available.

Library

Virginia Wesleyan’s Hofheimer Library is a key resource for students and library staff are very helpful. Evening library orientation programs are available for ASP students who want to learn how to make the most of our library resources.

Computers

Campus computer facilities are open to you, including the 24-hour computer lab near our office on the first floor in Clarke Hall. All ASP students obtain an e-mail account through the college. For details on how to access this e-mail account, please visit the Computer Lab online or call the Help Desk at 757.455.3111.

Security

Campus security officers patrol the campus on foot and on bicycles and are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They will escort you to your car in the evening if you wish, and they also offer assistance in the event of a vehicle breakdown or other personal emergency. There are also emergency call boxes located at various locations on campus.

Bookstore

The campus bookstore holds special evening hours at the beginning of each semester and is open Saturdays during the semester.

Counseling

The college's professional counselors are available to assist ASP students facing personal difficulties.

Snack and Dining Facilities

Batten Student Center and Marlin Restaurant

For many commuter students, this will be a home away from home. This is a place to get a quick snack, cold drink or a hot cup of coffee. It is a place to relax, meet other commuter and resident students and catch up with the news on a lounge television. Additionally, students will find table tennis and billiards available for their enjoyment.

Marlin $ Program

Commuter students can purchase their books and merchandise in the Scribner Bookstore, pre-pay for meals, snacks and drinks in Boyd Dining Center and The Marlin Restaurant and receive discounted meal prices through the Marlin $ program administered in the College Business Office. With an initial buy-in of $50.00, the student ID card acts as a debit card which will subtract the purchase amount from the student's Marlin $ balance. Additional buy-ins to the account can be made in increments of $20.00. Meals may also be purchased with cash; meals purchased in the Boyd Dining Center with Marlin $ are at a discounted rate. Students can also pay for guests' meals with the Marlin $ account. Balances in the Marlin $ plan are refundable at the end of the academic year only.

Student Center

The Jane P. Batten Student Center is conveniently located directly across from Clarke Hall. Its athletic facilities are open to ASP students for a fee per semester.
