Transforming Conflict in The Church

March 19 – 20, 2012

Whether in the home, school, or church community, conflict is an inevitable part of life. When it shows up in our congregations, conflict has a way of upsetting the peace and causing many to become anxious. Church conflict hurts and can be mean-spirited and devastating. But it doesn't have to be. Even though the topic of this retreat is conflict, the emphasis is on how conflict can be a spark for health and transformational growth in your church community. This retreat is a time to pause and talk honestly about the joys and challenges that conflict offers, and to learn skills to function effectively in emotionally intense, conflicted situations.

• Retreat topics include:
  Understand the nature and role of conflict and options to deal with it
• Understand and improve your own style of response to conflict – to manage conflict, you need to first understand and manage your own conflict style
• Learn principles of conflict transformation that direct conflict from destructive to productive change
• Increase your interpersonal peacemaking skills, especially when people are angry
• Introduction of conflict in groups: Moving from interpersonal conflict to systems theory
• Learn how to offset compassion fatigue in your own ministry by applying Dr. Good's ABC's of Leader Self Care: Awareness, Balance, Choice
