Attitudes Towards Dialectical Differences in English Classrooms

Student Dana Lynch
Department Education

Abstract

African American Vernacular English (AAVE) is widely accepted as an indicator of a lack of education. This prejudice is found in the English classroom where many teachers seek to replace AAVE with standard English. This study examines the causes and effects of this prejudice and the implications for the classroom.
