Popular opinion in industrialized countries asserts that the earth's carrying capacity is limited as a result of high birth rates within less developed countries. Such opinion maintains that population control will stimulate development and preserve environmental resources. My paper will examine how population control programs impact women's reproductive freedom, as well as the economy and the environment. I will explore the possibility that without addressing resource distribution and consumption patterns, population control alone may be an ineffective strategy to preserve the earth's resources.
