Abstract

My research compares and contrasts Japan's sex industry during two periods: World War II and the last 26 years. During World War II, women known as comfort women acted as prostitutes for the Japanese military. Recently, Japan has become increasingly popular as a location for the global sex trade industry. The total profit collected from both the buying and selling of sex related materials and services in Japan is said to be higher than the GDPs of several smaller countries.
