In this research project I intend to examine the connections between images of the pin-up women of Alberto Vargas, images of the “girl back home” or domestic women, and finally images of working women. Characteristics of each category of images blurred between the three categories and worked together to form a united front for supporting the war. Each category has distinct characteristics that help to define the images. It is significant that the pin-up heavily influenced other images during the period of World War II in that the climate of the war took a socially taboo image and promoted and manipulated it so that one can see the pin-up’s influence in images of “the girl back home” and of the working woman.
