Organic compounds settle and get trapped in sediments. To test if organic compounds are present two different methods were used: vaporizing, and ether extraction. Vaporization was the most effective method. Soil samples were heated in sealed vials and head samples of the vapor were analyzed by gas chromatography By vaporizing, peaks from a gas chromatograph reveal that organics are present. To discover exactly what contaminates are present more samples from the same areas would have to be tested along with a lager amount of standards.
