Does formal training have any direct and positive influence on job performance? To answer that question, I conducted some research on existing studies examining the correlation between training and performance. I applied those approaches and metrics in conducting a case study on my local employer using training and performance metrics from a previous year. Based on the results of that study, the link in my organization doesn't appear to be as strong as I would like (especially since I am the Learning and Development Manager). But I did learn a lot about how linking training to performance metrics ensures successful knowledge transfer. Because of this study, I plan to conduct these analyses annually to ensure our company's training directly links to the skills and knowledge used to evaluate performance.
