I researched the Reagan Administration in Latin America, focusing on imperial policy execution. I utilized the Contra war and drug war for cases because both involved aggressive foreign policy aimed at ensuring the western hemisphere remained submissive to US policy. Administration policy utilized the rhetoric and policy justification of national security. Doing so ensured domestic support at home for aggressive policy that supplanted internal policy in sovereign nations. The Reagan administration maintained US imperial power through redefining national security threats. After Iran-Contra removed Cold War legitimization of intervention, US policy instituted a militaristic drug war, ensuring US hegemony remained supreme.
