Abstract

Recess plays a valuable role in the social and academic development of elementary school children. Across America, schools are canceling recess in order to gain more instruction time. Results from surveys in local elementary schools indicate that teachers are aware that children perform better in the classroom and that teachers experience fewer classroom disruptions due to students’ behavior when children are provided recess.
