Abstract
The history of the American Civil War had tremendous impacts on the nature of the American Republic in terms of social, regional, and international significance. However, it also marks an important point in the transition of the American currency from one of dollars in gold and silver to dollars of paper and faith in the government and economy. The American Civil War provided the catalyst that transformed the currency of the United States from a bullion to fiat system.
