Abstract

I seek to examine the relationship between colonization and democracy. This question is significant to Political Science and the larger world because it seeks to demonstrate the negative influence of past colonization on current levels of democracy. I hypothesize that countries that have not been colonized are more likely to democratize. Among former colonies, I further hypothesize that those colonized by Britain are more likely to democratize than those colonized by France, Belgium or Germany.
