The Lifestyle of Chinese Buddhist Monastics

Student Kori Robins
Faculty Mentor(s) Dr. Craig Wansink
Department Religious Studies

This program, sponsored by WoodenFish, gives students the opportunity to live in a monastery in Taiwan for 30 days while witnessing and working with monks who reside in the monastery. While studying Chinese Buddhist history, philosophy, and religion, students experience Buddhist practices firsthand by taking different classes, such as liturgical instruments, monastic etiquette, kung-fu, meditation practice and various rituals. My research focuses on the actual practices of the Buddhist monastics and how these practices reflect their religious philosophy.
