VFIC Summer Research Grants
The Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges (VFIC) awards summer research grants to VWC students in the natural sciences. The goal of these awards is to encourage undergraduate research in the natural sciences at Virginia’s private institutions of higher learning. In summer 2015, VFIC awarded research grants to three Virginia Wesleyan students.
Ashley Byers received VFIC support for her research “Spiculation in Doriopsilla pharpa (Mollusca: Gastropoda: Opisthobranchia: Nudibranchia) and its sponge prey”. Her research was supervised by Associate Professor of Biology Dr. Deirdre Gonsalves-Jackson.
Hali Goad was awarded the Mead/Westvaco Science Research Fellowship for a project entitled "The Impact of Vegetation on the Efficiency of Storm Water Retention Ponds." Her research was supervised by Associate Professor of Chemistry Dr. Maury Howard and Professor of Biology Maynard Schaus.
Elizabeth Quamme received VFIC support for her research “We moss-t find that centrin.” Her research was supervised by Assistant Professor of Biology Dr. Eric Johnson.
To apply for a summer 2016 VFIC research grant, VWC students submit an online application. This application is due on Friday, April 15th.
Funds for VFIC research grants may be applied toward expenses related to research, including equipment, software, travel, room and board on campus, and a stipend.
