The Music Department at Virginia Wesleyan College offers students an opportunity to explore, practice, and celebrate the musician's art in a program that unites artistic standards with the academic breadth of the liberal arts in an atmosphere of free, creative, and critical inquiry.
Music is a unique expressive language, a special way of knowing as essential to basic education as the mastery of verbal and numerical skills. The study of this language provides individuals with personal fulfillment, enhances and complements everyday life, and creates a window through which the viewer can discover and experience aesthetic beauty. Virginia Wesleyan College provides a program of study that educates its learners in a way that enables them to appreciate as well as critically articulate their responses to this important part of our culture.
Virginia Wesleyan offers majors in applied music, music in the liberal arts, and a music concentration within the humanities division, as well as courses for the non-musician. Students prepare for careers in private teaching, church music, music merchandising, arts management, music librarianship, or graduate studies in music, music education, or humanities.

Center for Sacred Music
Virginia Wesleyan's Center for Sacred Music offers training for students
interested in careers in church music ministry through its Church Music
Certificate program, as well as an annual seminar series. The CSM's annual
Sacred Music Summer Conference is considered one of the finest in the nation.
Drawing participants from throughout the eastern half of the United States,
the conference unites students and the community with nationally and internationally
recognized professionals in the field of church music for an intensive week
of study, performance, and worship.

The Virginia Wesleyan
College Concert Series presents performances throughout
the year in the college's Hofheimer Theater, bringing the nation's top
performers to campus for concert and master class. All concerts are free
to VWC students and their guest.
