History is the heart of a strong liberal arts
education and the essential foundation for approaching and understanding
all other disciplines.
The History Department is dedicated to guiding our students through the development of the array of skills, knowledge, and dispositions central to the historical craft, especially by encouraging an understanding of the narratives and contexts of diverse cultures around the world, a sense of causation and change over time, and the application of critical thinking, writing, research, and historiographical skills in producing solid works of scholarship.
