Definition
Courses bearing the Writing Intensive (W) designation teach students the methods, standards and conventions of scholarly and/or professional writing in the discipline of the teacher. Students are guided through the writing process and offered opportunities to revise and resubmit some assignments to meet standards.
Goals
- To understand and appreciate the connections between writing and thinking and to use writing as a mode of learning.
- To communicate complex information and ideas effectively to a well-defined audience.
- To understand the writing and solicit critical responses from others.
- To develop effective strategies for proofreading.
