First Year Experience

The first year of college brings exciting challenges and terrific opportunities for self-transformation. Virginia Wesleyan has special programs to help first-year students make the transition to a successful and fulfilling first year.

Prospective Students

If you are considering an education at Virginia Wesleyan, this site will direct you to programs that orient new students to academic and campus life. In particular, you will learn more about our First-Year Seminars—small seminars of no more than fifteen new students who, together with a faculty mentor and peer advisors, explore a significant issue. In these two-credit seminars, students raise new questions, look for surprises, and discover what lies beneath our common assumptions – in the process building both academic skills and community.

Incoming Students

If you are already beginning your journey as a Virginia Wesleyan freshman, this site will help you navigate your first-semester experience. You will find descriptions of First-Year Seminars, ways in which you can engage in campus life, links to services that can support you academically and personally, and a calendar of events tied to the First-Year Experience program. You will also find a link to summer preparation and orientation.
