Event Eligibility for the Community Engagement Contract

Unless an instructor creates exceptions, all eligible events are expected to be campus- or class-sponsored. Your choices should reflect diversity within and across four categories – usually 2-4 events in each category, although requirements may vary with instructors:

  1. Common required events
All students should include the Honor Convocation and the Equalogy program (already listed on the contract). Individual instructors may require additional events specific to their sections.
  2. Academic enrichment
Lectures, concerts, performances, exhibitions, film series, and academic field trips
  3. Skills and support services
Workshops on time management, note-taking stragegies, research skills, stress
    management, etc.
  4. Community connections
Opportunities to learn about or participate in campus organizations, including international and intercultural affairs, recreational programs, Honor Societies, fraternities and sororities, Office of Community Service events, clubs of every kind, athletic functions, etc.

NOTE: Using the pull-down menu to the right, you can sort the events listed in this calendar by various categories, including by “First-Year Experience.”Since this flagging option is brand-new to the campus, many good options may have been submitted without their having been flagged for First-Year Experience. Hence, you may want to scan the entire calendar to identify events well suited to the above categories. Also, sometimes groups will put together great, more spontaneous events without submitting them to the events calendar, so, if you hear about something you want to add to your contract, by all means bring it up with your instructor.
