PORT 221: Problem Solving Seminar (3 credits)
Will continue to focus on success skills that will help students in the 21st century. It will feature problem-based learning as a way of teaching basic academic skills but in a manner that connects classroom learning with real-world experiences. Problem-based learning will help provide our students with the analytic and synthetic skills of critical thinking, problem-solving, conflict-resolution strategies, and collaborative learning necessary to acquire knowledge requisite for further theoretical and practical tasks. Work on the electronic portfolio will continue and the e-folio format will change to reflect the acquisition of additional technical skills as well as content changes that reflect student growth and reflection.

PORT 225: Integrative Career Experience (3 credits)
During the Winter Session of the sophomore year, students will have an opportunity for an in-depth study of a career field of their choice. With a 30 hour externship experience students will see first hand the world of work in their chosen profession at a community partner site. PORTfolio students will "shadow" these professionals to see for themselves whether their expectations match the real-world. Following a week of research about the career field and the partner site, students will be equipped to ask questions, make plans and prepare educational and career goals. These experiences are designed to help students see the connections between classroom learning and the world beyond the campus, make informed decisions about career options, and plan their academic experience accordingly.
