PORTfolio

Senior Year

PORT 420: The President's Senior Seminar (1 credit)

This is a capstone experience for the entire PORTfolio Program. Students will meet once a week to discuss their plans following graduation in this unique seminar that is team-taught with the President of Virginia Wesleyan College. Focusing on ethical values, the seminar will discuss with students ways in which they can put their liberal arts degree "to work" that would benefit not only themselves but the community which they will soon enter and be a part of following graduation. This course is usually taught during the spring semester of the senior year.

PORT 421: Senior Synthesis and Seuge (2 credits)

This is a second capstone experience for the entire PORTfolio Program. Using their electronic portfolio, students will pull together, integrate, and attempt to give meaning to their PORTfolio and college experiences in a team-taught seminar that includes the Director of the PORTfolio Program. This course is usually taught during the spring semester of the senior year.

The Internship/Study Abroad Experience

If not completed during their junior year, students in their senior year complete an internship or collaborative project with a local organization or business that is related to the student's professional, vocational, or personal interests; or study abroad to experience another culture or increase their fluency in another language.

The PORTfolio Symposium: Throughout all four years...

Will bring to the campus community leaders from public, private, and nonprofit organizations and businesses to discuss their views of the meaning of a liberal arts degree in today's - and tomorrow's - world. PORTfolio students will have a special opportunity to meet symposium participants and talk with them about their expectations of future employees.
