Ten Ways to Go Green
- Turn off lights and use natural light
- Replace incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs
- Enable sleep settings on monitors/computers and turn off copiers, computers, printers, fax machines, etc. when not in use
- Turn off water when washing hands, brushing teeth and washing dishes
- Walk, bike or use public transportation to get to campus, go to lunch and get to meetings
- Participate in trayless dining in the dining hall
- Reduce, reuse and recycle
- Buy EnergyStar electronics and appliances
- Purchase environmentally friendly products: recycled content paper, nontoxic cleaning supplies, local food, etc.
- Educate yourself and others about your ecological footprint
Get Involved!
- Join student organizations like the Student Environmental Awareness League, a group dedicated in raising consciousness in the current issues of the environment.
- Become a Sustainability Coordinator for your club or organization.
- Participate in Recyclemania in the spring. Go to www.recyclemaniacs.org to learn more.
- Pay attention to the Marlins Go Green weekly tips on email.
- Participate in the Residence Hall Hand-Me-Down Day in May by donating your unwanted but reusable clothing, furniture and food.
Get Creative!
Think of an innovative way to implement a new environmental initiative on campus, and apply for the President's Environmental Challenge Grant. Grant winners receive a $2,500 prize and recognition.
