Quick Facts

Location

Virginia Wesleyan's 300-acre campus is a beautiful oasis on the border of Virginia Beach and Norfolk. The College is in the middle of a bustling metropolitan area, the 37th largest in the nation, with more than 1.5 million people, yet we're only 20 minutes from the beach. We're ideally located for education, travel, internship and employment opportunities, as well as social and recreational activities. Chances are you'll find whatever you're looking for right here.

Students

Let's get real. One of the best reasons to go to college is to make new friends. As a Wesleyan student, you'll form life-long relationships with people from Virginia, the East Coast, the nation and the world. We embrace diversity and celebrate the differences that every person brings to our community. With a small student body of approximately 1,400 (more than 850 residential students), you will be more than a face in the crowd or a number on a form. Faculty and staff members will call you by name. And you'll probably never pass someone on the sidewalk without getting a friendly smile and a hello!

Faculty

Our faculty members are not only specialists in their fields, they love (and live) to teach! They come from prestigious institutions such as Harvard, Princeton and Yale. And 90 percent of our faculty members have the highest degrees offered in their field. No need to worry that you'll be stuck in a huge classroom with 200 other students and a graduate assistant as a teacher - it's the faculty at Virginia Wesleyan College who will guide you through your college career. Our 13:1 student/teacher ratio means you'll get lots of one-on-one counsel and guidance. And your teachers will be more than mentors, they'll become your friends - friends who will challenge and push you toward your dreams and celebrate your successes.

Accreditation

And, with a degree from Virginia Wesleyan, you have lots of great employment opportunities. Ninety percent of recent graduates found employment within six months of graduation at top-notch organizations such as the CIA, IBM and the US Capitol. If you decide not to go to work but to school, you're likely to be at one of the nation's top graduate schools.

Student Life

A real education is more than books and tests. It's about life! With more than 70 student organizations, you'll gain social and leadership skills for a lifetime. Clubs offer an easy outlet for involvement and entertainment on campus, many hosting social and service events throughout the year. Whatever you're into, we have. There's Greek life, service organizations, religious and foreign language clubs, the Black Student Union and the Model United Nations.

Be sure to check out intramural sports, ranging from volleyball and soccer to softball and roller hockey. In your spare time take advantage of the Jane P. Batten Center where you can rock climb, swim, play racquetball, train, and after that, grab a bite to eat at the Marlin Grill.

Environmental Initiatives

Marlins go green! The ongoing sustainability efforts of the College's faculty, staff and students reflect a larger commitment to ethical conduct and social responsibility through environmental stewardship and education. Virginia Wesleyan has been recognized locally, regionally and nationally for its greening practices. Most recently, VWC was selected for the the 2015 edition of The Princeton Review Guide to 353 Green Colleges.

Athletics

Marlins work hard in the classroom and play hard on the fields and courts. Virginia Wesleyan has 19 men's and women's NCAA Division III athletic teams. With nationally ranked teams, All-American athletes and a truly committed and caring coaching staff, you'll get the best of both worlds--academic and athletic. Go Marlins!

Residences

Inspired by Thomas Jefferson's concept of the Academic Village, living and learning are intermingled in our three residential villages. Villages are split into halls for community living - single rooms, suites with kitchens, and apartment-style living are also available. All rooms include cable, telephone, a microwave, refrigerator/freezer unit and, of course, Internet access. And, if you do not have a computer of your own, there are plenty of computers available in campus computer labs.
