Students

Let's get real. One of the best reasons to go to college is to make new friends. As a Wesleyan student, you'll form life-long relationships with people from Virginia, the East Coast, the nation and the world. We embrace diversity and celebrate the differences that every person brings to our community. With a small student body of approximately 1,400 (more than 700 residential students), you will be more than a face in the crowd or a number on a form. Faculty and staff members will call you by name. And you'll probably never pass someone on the sidewalk without getting a friendly smile and a hello!

Faculty

Our faculty members are not only specialists in their fields, they love (and live) to teach! They come from prestigious institutions such as Harvard, Princeton and Yale. And 90 percent of our faculty members have the highest degrees offered in their field. No need to worry that you'll be stuck in a huge classroom with 200 other students and a graduate assistant as a teacher – it's the faculty at Virginia Wesleyan College who will guide you through your college career. Our 12:1 student/teacher ratio means you'll get lots of one-on-one counsel and guidance. And your teachers will be more than mentors, they'll become your friends – friends who will challenge and push you toward your dreams and celebrate your successes.

Campus Greening Initiative

Marlins go green! Recognizing the importance of environmental stewardship, Virginia Wesleyan College has set a campus greening initiative as one of its top priorities. President Billy Greer established the President's Environmental Issues Council (PEIC) to promote a strong environmental ethic and cultivate sustainable policies, practices and curricula throughout Virginia Wesleyan College.

Through its broad membership, the Council works with campus leaders to address environmental issues on campus and to promote conservation and environmental stewardship among Virginia Wesleyan's students, faculty and staff.

Athletics

Marlins work hard in the classroom, and play hard on the fields and courts. During the 2006-07 season, Virginia Wesleyan won more than 64 percent of its athletic contests, capturing a major award for the highest overall winning percentage among all of Virginia's Division II and III schools. The Marlins posted a 192-103-7 overall record, highlighted by a 106-33-1 record in Old Dominion Athletic Conference competition. Go Marlins!

Residences

Inspired by Thomas Jefferson's concept of the Academic Village, living and learning are intermingled in our three residential villages. Villages are split into halls for community living – single rooms, suites with kitchens, and apartment-style living are also available. All rooms include cable, telephone, a microwave, refrigerator/freezer unit and, of course, Internet access. And, if you do not have a computer of your own, there are plenty of computers available in campus computer labs.
